Joe Giarrusso III, an attorney and former president of the Lakeview Civic Improvement Association[1], is an announced candidate for the District A seat on the New Orleans City Council.


Career and Personal Life

Giarrusso is a New Orleans native and currently lives in the Lakeview area with his wife Cassie Giarrusso and his two daughters. [2] He grew up in District A and attended Jesuit High School, later going on to earn his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and his juris doctor degree from Louisiana State University.

Specializing in maritime law, oilfield law and energy litigation, Giarusso currently works for Liskow & Lewis law practice and recently represented Shell Offshore Inc. In addition to his work in the legal field, Giarrusso also has experience in civic engagement.

He has served on the Lakeview Crime Prevention District and also sat on the Board of KIPP New Orleans Schools, serving as chair of the KNOS Development Committee and president of KNOS charter network governing board in his tenure.

City Council Race 2017

Giarrusso announced his candidacy April 20, 2017, and will be running for the District A seat alongside attorney Mark Vicknair and Carrollton neighborhood activist Drew Ward.[3]

The primary areas of concern Giarrusso seeks to address in his campaign include public safety, economic development and street infrastructure.[4]

“I want to be on the City Council to show that public officials can be public servants again,” Giarrusso said. “I want my daughters to grow up in a safe, livable city.”[5]
